Primary Hypogonadism

Meaning

Primary Hypogonadism is a specific endocrine disorder characterized by the failure of the gonads—the testes in males or the ovaries in females—to produce adequate amounts of sex hormones, such as testosterone or estrogen, despite receiving adequate stimulatory signals from the pituitary gland. This condition is also clinically known as hypergonadotropic hypogonadism because the pituitary attempts to compensate by producing high levels of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). It represents a direct and irreversible functional failure at the gonadal level.
