Prefrontal Cortex Overstimulation

Meaning

A state of excessive, sustained activation of the prefrontal cortex (PFC), the brain region responsible for executive functions such as planning, working memory, and complex decision-making. Chronic overstimulation, often due to multitasking, information overload, or perpetual stress, leads to reduced cognitive efficiency, impaired focus, and contributes significantly to mental fatigue. This state diminishes the PFC’s ability to effectively regulate emotional responses and maintain attention.
