Precursor Strategy

Meaning

The Precursor Strategy is a therapeutic approach in hormonal health that involves administering an inactive or less active biochemical compound—a precursor—with the intention that the body will naturally convert it into the desired, biologically potent hormone. This strategy leverages the body’s own enzymatic machinery and homeostatic mechanisms, offering a potentially more physiological and self-regulating method of hormone modulation compared to direct administration of the final active hormone. DHEA is a common example, serving as a precursor to both androgens and estrogens.
