Precursor Amino Acids

Meaning

Precursor Amino Acids are specific essential and non-essential amino acids that serve as the foundational molecular building blocks for the de novo synthesis of critical non-protein biomolecules, including neurotransmitters, thyroid hormones, and various peptide hormones. Their adequate dietary availability is a rate-limiting factor in the production of these vital signaling molecules. Tryptophan, for instance, is a precursor for serotonin, and tyrosine for dopamine and thyroid hormones.
