Pre-Eclampsia

Meaning

Pre-Eclampsia is a severe, multi-system disorder unique to human pregnancy, typically arising after 20 weeks of gestation, characterized by new-onset hypertension and proteinuria or other signs of end-organ damage, such as liver, kidney, or neurological complications. This condition is a leading cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide, necessitating vigilant antenatal monitoring and timely clinical intervention. The underlying pathology involves widespread endothelial dysfunction and systemic inflammation driven by placental factors.
