PPAR Receptors

Meaning

Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors, or PPARs, are a group of nuclear receptor proteins that function as ligand-activated transcription factors. These receptors are primarily activated by various fatty acids and their derivatives, playing a critical role in regulating the expression of genes involved in metabolic processes. There are three main isoforms: PPAR-alpha, PPAR-gamma, and PPAR-delta (also known as PPAR-beta), each with distinct tissue distribution and physiological functions.
