PPARγ Dysregulation

Meaning

PPARγ Dysregulation is a pathological state characterized by an impaired function, reduced expression, or altered activity of the Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor gamma, a nuclear receptor that serves as a master transcription factor for genes governing adipogenesis, lipid metabolism, and whole-body insulin sensitivity. Dysfunction of this receptor is a central molecular mechanism contributing to the development of insulin resistance, the metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes.
