PPAR

Meaning

PPAR stands for Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors, a group of ligand-activated nuclear receptor proteins including PPAR-alpha, PPAR-gamma, and PPAR-delta/beta, that function as master transcription factors to regulate the expression of genes involved in cellular metabolism, differentiation, and development. These receptors are critical metabolic master switches, particularly in the meticulous regulation of lipid and glucose homeostasis, making them extremely significant therapeutic targets for chronic metabolic disorders like type 2 diabetes and various forms of dyslipidemia.
