Postpartum PCOS

Meaning

Postpartum PCOS refers to the clinical presentation of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) symptoms that either persist after delivery or become newly apparent during the immediate and long-term postpartum period. While the hormonal environment of pregnancy often temporarily masks the symptoms of PCOS, the dramatic endocrine shifts following childbirth can unmask or exacerbate the underlying metabolic and androgenic dysregulation. This diagnosis is critical for managing long-term maternal health risks, including future fertility and metabolic syndrome progression.
