Posterior Subcapsular Cataracts

Meaning

Posterior Subcapsular Cataracts are a distinct form of lens opacity characterized by a granular or plaque-like deposit that forms on the inner surface of the posterior lens capsule, directly in the path of incoming light rays. This specific anatomical location causes a significant and often disproportionate degree of visual impairment, particularly noticeable in bright light or when the pupil constricts. Clinically, this type of cataract is strongly associated with prolonged, high-dose systemic corticosteroid therapy and certain metabolic or inflammatory conditions.
