Postbiotic Bioactive Compounds

Meaning

Postbiotic Bioactive Compounds are the functional, non-viable microbial cell components and metabolites that are intentionally produced by, or released from, microorganisms and confer a health benefit on the host. These compounds include short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), organic acids, functional proteins, cell wall fragments, and exopolysaccharides. They are distinct from probiotics (live microorganisms) and prebiotics (fiber that feeds them), representing the direct biological output of the microbial community. The clinical utility of postbiotics lies in their stability, precise dosing, and direct mechanism of action on host physiology, especially in modulating immune and endocrine function.
