Post-TRT Axis Rebound

Meaning

Post-TRT Axis Rebound describes the natural or pharmacologically assisted restoration of the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis function following the cessation of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). During TRT, exogenous testosterone suppresses the axis, leading to diminished native production of LH, FSH, and endogenous testosterone. The rebound phase is the critical period where the body attempts to restart its own hormone production, aiming to return to a pre-treatment or optimized baseline. Successfully managing this rebound is essential for avoiding prolonged hypogonadal symptoms.
