Post-Injection Tenderness

Meaning

Post-injection tenderness is a common, localized adverse reaction characterized by pain, soreness, or discomfort experienced at the site of a parenteral drug administration, persisting for a period after the injection has been completed. This symptom is a localized inflammatory response, which can range from mild, transient soreness to significant, mobility-limiting pain lasting several days. The degree of tenderness is influenced by factors including the drug’s formulation, the volume injected, the injection technique used, and the individual patient’s tissue sensitivity. Clinically, it is important to differentiate routine tenderness from signs of infection or allergic reaction.
