Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids

Meaning

Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids, often abbreviated as PUFAs, are a class of fatty acids characterized by having two or more double bonds in their carbon chain. These vital lipids are categorized primarily into Omega-3 and Omega-6 families, distinguishing them by the position of the first double bond from the methyl end of the molecule. Humans must obtain these essential fatty acids through diet, as the body cannot synthesize them endogenously, making their adequate intake critical for health.
