Polyunsaturated fats, often referred to as PUFAs, are a class of lipids characterized by the presence of two or more double bonds within their fatty acid chains. These lipids are distinguished from saturated and monounsaturated fats by their molecular structure, which renders them more flexible and less stable. Certain PUFAs, specifically omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, are deemed essential fatty acids because the human body cannot synthesize them endogenously and must acquire them through dietary sources for optimal physiological function.
