Polysorbates

Meaning

A class of nonionic surfactants and emulsifiers widely utilized in pharmaceutical formulations, cosmetics, and food products to stabilize mixtures of oil and water. In drug delivery, they are crucial excipients used to solubilize poorly water-soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients and to prevent protein aggregation in biologic medications, thereby maintaining the product’s stability and shelf life. The most common forms used in clinical products are Polysorbate 20 and Polysorbate 80.
