Polygenic Architecture

Meaning

Polygenic architecture describes the complex genetic basis of a quantitative trait or common disease that is influenced by the cumulative, small additive effects of numerous genes, rather than being determined by a single dominant gene. Most common hormonal conditions, including variations in endogenous hormone levels, type 2 diabetes, and obesity, exhibit this type of inheritance pattern. Understanding this complex structure requires advanced genomic analyses to identify the many contributing genetic loci and their subtle interactions.
