Polychlorinated Biphenyls

Meaning

Polychlorinated Biphenyls, or PCBs, are a group of synthetic organic compounds characterized by chlorine atoms attached to a biphenyl molecule. These chemicals were widely used in industrial applications, including coolants, lubricants, and electrical equipment, due to their stability and non-flammability. Their production ceased in many countries decades ago due to recognized environmental and health concerns.
