Podocytes

Meaning

Podocytes are highly specialized epithelial cells located in the kidney’s glomerulus, forming the visceral layer of Bowman’s capsule. These cells are characterized by their unique foot processes, or pedicels, which extend and interdigitate around the glomerular capillaries. They are integral components of the glomerular filtration barrier, a sophisticated system responsible for filtering blood and producing primary urine.
