Podocyte Function

Meaning

Podocyte function describes the critical role of specialized epithelial cells, podocytes, in the renal glomerulus’s visceral layer of Bowman’s capsule. These cells are essential for maintaining the kidney’s filtration barrier, selectively preventing large proteins from entering the urinary filtrate while allowing water and small solutes to pass. Their structural integrity dictates efficient glomerular filtration.
