PMDD Pathophysiology

Meaning

PMDD Pathophysiology describes the fundamental underlying biological and physiological mechanisms responsible for the severe, often debilitating affective and somatic symptoms that define Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). The condition is clinically understood as an extreme, pathological sensitivity in the central nervous system to the normal cyclical fluctuations of ovarian steroid hormones, most notably progesterone and its neuroactive metabolites.
