Plaque Stabilization

Meaning

Plaque stabilization refers to the clinical strategy aimed at modifying the composition and structure of an atherosclerotic plaque to reduce its vulnerability to rupture, preventing acute thrombotic events. This involves rendering a high-risk lesion less prone to erosion or fissure, common precursors to myocardial infarction and stroke. The objective is to transform an unstable plaque into a more benign, quiescent state.
