Plaque Regression

Meaning

Plaque regression denotes the measurable reduction in the volume or size of atherosclerotic lesions, commonly referred to as plaques, within the arterial walls. This physiological reversal signifies a decrease in the accumulated lipid, calcium, and inflammatory cellular material that contributes to vascular narrowing and stiffness. It represents a favorable change in the pathological progression of cardiovascular disease.
