Placental Growth Factor

Meaning

Placental Growth Factor, often abbreviated as PlGF, is a protein belonging to the vascular endothelial growth factor family, specifically a member of the VEGF-B/PlGF subgroup. It is a dimeric glycoprotein primarily produced by the syncytiotrophoblast cells of the placenta during pregnancy. PlGF plays a significant role in the physiological process of angiogenesis, which involves the formation of new blood vessels, and is particularly crucial for the development and health of the placenta.
