Placebo Control

Meaning

Placebo control is a fundamental methodology in clinical trial design where one group of participants receives an inert, non-active substance or procedure, known as the placebo, which is made to be physically indistinguishable from the active treatment being tested. The primary purpose of this control group is to isolate the true pharmacological effect of the drug from the psychological or physiological effects attributable to the expectation of benefit, known as the placebo effect. This rigorous comparison is essential for establishing the genuine efficacy of new hormonal therapies and providing high-quality evidence for clinical practice guidelines.
