Pituitary Suppression

Meaning

Pituitary suppression refers to the deliberate or physiological reduction in the synthesis and secretion of hormones from the pituitary gland, a crucial endocrine organ situated at the base of the brain. This intervention aims to decrease the output of specific trophic hormones, such as luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), or growth hormone (GH), thereby impacting their respective target glands and downstream hormonal cascades.
