Pituitary Suppression

Meaning

Pituitary Suppression is a clinical or physiological state where the anterior pituitary gland’s normal secretion of tropic hormones is deliberately or pathologically inhibited. This suppression leads to a downstream reduction in the production of target gland hormones, such as thyroid hormones, cortisol, or sex steroids. Clinically, it is a targeted therapeutic strategy in hormone-sensitive conditions, or it can be an unintended consequence of exogenous hormone administration, which triggers a negative feedback loop.
