Pituitary Stimulation

Meaning

Pituitary stimulation is the process of activating the anterior or posterior lobes of the pituitary gland to release their stored or synthesized trophic hormones into the systemic circulation. This activation is typically initiated by releasing hormones or inhibitory hormones secreted by the hypothalamus. Clinically, specific pharmacological agents or peptides are used to intentionally stimulate the pituitary as a diagnostic tool or as a therapeutic strategy to restore deficient endocrine axes. The resulting surge in trophic hormones subsequently influences peripheral endocrine gland function.
