Pituitary Sensitization

Meaning

Pituitary Sensitization refers to a heightened, enhanced physiological responsiveness of the pituitary gland, the body’s master endocrine regulator, to the stimulatory effects of hypothalamic releasing hormones, particularly Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). This specific physiological change results in a significantly greater magnitude of gonadotropin release, specifically Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), for a given standardized dose of GnRH. Clinically, this dynamic phenomenon is recognized as a key element in the intricate pulsatile control of the reproductive axis and is known to be significantly influenced by the circulating concentrations of sex steroids and other vital regulatory factors.
