Pituitary Sensitivity Alterations

Meaning

Pituitary Sensitivity Alterations describe a change in the responsiveness of the pituitary gland, the master gland of the endocrine system, to the releasing and inhibiting hormones secreted by the hypothalamus. This means the pituitary may either over-respond or under-respond to the signals it receives, leading to inappropriate secretion of its own trophic hormones, such such as TSH, LH, FSH, or ACTH. These alterations can result in significant secondary endocrine dysfunctions, profoundly affecting the thyroid, adrenal, and gonadal axes. It is a subtle yet critical central point of hormonal dysregulation that can compromise systemic homeostasis.
