Pituitary Resensitization

Meaning

Pituitary Resensitization refers to the clinical and physiological process of restoring the normal, healthy responsiveness of the anterior pituitary gland’s gonadotroph cells to the stimulatory effects of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH). This restoration is often necessitated following prolonged periods of exogenous sex hormone administration, such as Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), which induces suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis via negative feedback. Successful resensitization is a critical therapeutic goal for restoring endogenous hormone production and reproductive potential.
