Pituitary Resensitization

Meaning

Pituitary resensitization describes the process of restoring the pituitary gland’s responsiveness to its upstream signals, particularly Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), after a period of desensitization. This often occurs when prolonged or continuous exposure to GnRH or its analogs has diminished the pituitary’s capacity to synthesize and secrete gonadotropins, namely Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). The goal is to re-establish the normal pulsatile release pattern essential for optimal endocrine function.
