Pituitary Microadenoma

Meaning

A Pituitary Microadenoma is defined as a benign, non-cancerous tumor of the pituitary gland that is less than 10 millimeters in diameter, often discovered incidentally during imaging studies performed for unrelated reasons. These small growths can be functionally active, meaning they secrete an excess of one or more pituitary hormones, or non-functional, causing symptoms primarily through compression of adjacent tissues. Even a small adenoma can significantly disrupt the body’s delicate endocrine balance, leading to systemic hormonal disorders.
