Pituitary Hyperplasia

Meaning

Pituitary hyperplasia is a pathological condition characterized by a non-neoplastic, generalized increase in the number of cells within the anterior pituitary gland. This cellular proliferation results in the enlargement of the gland and often leads to the overproduction and hypersecretion of one or more pituitary hormones, such as prolactin or growth hormone. It is a state of abnormal glandular overgrowth distinct from a true pituitary tumor, though the effects can be similar.
