Pituitary Gonadotropes

Meaning

Pituitary gonadotropes are a specific population of endocrine cells located within the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland that are responsible for synthesizing and secreting the gonadotropin hormones, Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH). These cells are the central command post for reproductive function, translating signals from the hypothalamus into systemic hormonal messages that regulate the gonads. Their functional integrity is paramount for fertility and sex steroid production.
