PI3K/Akt Signaling Pathway

Meaning

A crucial intracellular signaling cascade, also known as the Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase/Protein Kinase B pathway, which is a central regulator of cellular survival, growth, proliferation, and metabolism. This pathway is activated by numerous extracellular signals, including insulin and various growth factors, and is fundamentally important in mediating the anabolic and anti-apoptotic effects of many hormones. Dysregulation of the PI3K/Akt pathway is implicated in metabolic disorders like insulin resistance and in the pathogenesis of certain hormone-sensitive cancers.
