Physiological Secretion

Meaning

Physiological Secretion refers to the normal, biologically appropriate process by which cells, tissues, or glands produce and discharge specific substances, such as hormones, enzymes, or fluids, into the circulation or onto an external surface. This process is highly regulated and represents a core function of the endocrine, exocrine, and neuroendocrine systems, maintaining systemic homeostasis. The timing, magnitude, and composition of these secretions are precisely calibrated by complex feedback loops to meet the body’s moment-to-moment demands. A healthy state is characterized by rhythmic and appropriate physiological secretion, whereas pathological conditions often involve hypo- or hypersecretion.
