Physiological Ratios

Meaning

Physiological ratios are clinically meaningful quotients calculated by dividing the measured concentration of one endogenous substance, typically a hormone or its metabolite, by the concentration of a related substance within a biological sample. These ratios offer a more dynamic and functional assessment of endocrine balance, enzymatic conversion rates, or receptor availability than the absolute level of a single analyte. Examples include the ratio of cortisol to DHEA or the ratio of free testosterone to Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG).
