Physiological Inflexibility

Meaning

Physiological Inflexibility is a state characterized by the diminished capacity of a biological system—such as the metabolic or neuroendocrine axis—to rapidly and appropriately adapt its output in response to internal or external environmental fluctuations. This reduced adaptive range, often a hallmark of chronic stress or metabolic disease, prevents the organism from efficiently maintaining homeostasis, leading to persistent dysregulation. It is a critical indicator of declining biological resilience.
