Physiological Dissonance

Meaning

A state of internal biological imbalance or incoherence where objective physiological markers, such as hormone levels, inflammatory cytokines, or heart rate variability, are in a state of chronic dysregulation despite the individual’s subjective perception of wellness or absence of overt disease. This subtle, sustained dysregulation, often driven by allostatic load, represents a preclinical state of functional decline. It indicates a disconnect between the body’s measured state and its perceived equilibrium.
