Physiologic Set Point

Meaning

The Physiologic Set Point is the ideal, tightly regulated numerical range or value for a specific biological parameter, such as body temperature, blood glucose concentration, or a circulating hormone level, which the body’s homeostatic mechanisms strive to maintain. This set point is not a static number but a dynamic, genetically influenced range that dictates optimal systemic function and health. Deviation from this optimal range signals physiological stress or disease and triggers compensatory hormonal feedback loops.
