Physiologic Concentrations

Meaning

Physiologic concentrations refer to the range of a specific substance, such as a hormone or metabolite, that is naturally produced and maintained in the circulation of a healthy human body under normal homeostatic conditions. Clinically, the goal of hormone replacement therapy is often to restore levels to these physiologic concentrations, thereby mimicking the body’s natural endocrine function and minimizing the risk of supraphysiologic side effects. This concept is central to the principle of bioidentical hormone therapy.
