Physician Licensing Compact

Meaning

The Physician Licensing Compact (PLC) is an expedited, voluntary pathway for eligible licensed physicians to obtain licenses in multiple member states, significantly reducing the administrative burden and time required for multi-state practice. It is an interstate agreement among participating U.S. states designed to facilitate the practice of medicine across state lines, which is particularly relevant for the expansion of telemedicine and for physicians who travel or specialize. This framework aims to enhance patient access to specialized medical care by streamlining the credentialing process while simultaneously maintaining high standards of licensure and disciplinary oversight.
