Physical Stress Adaptation

Meaning

Physical Stress Adaptation is the integrated physiological and psychological capacity of an organism to accurately sense, effectively respond to, and fully recover from external or internal physical challenges, resulting in an enhanced state of resilience and improved functional reserve. This adaptive response is centrally mediated by the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and the coordinated action of the autonomic nervous system. Optimal adaptation is characterized by a robust, timely stress response followed by a rapid, efficient return to baseline homeostatic balance.
