Physical Strength Indices

Meaning

Physical strength indices are objective, quantifiable measurements of maximal force generation across various muscle groups, typically assessed via dynamometry for grip strength, or one-repetition maximum for major compound movements. These indices serve as a direct, highly sensitive biomarker for lean mass integrity, neuromuscular efficiency, and overall anabolic hormonal status. Declining strength indices are a robust clinical predictor of morbidity and mortality, independent of muscle mass alone.
