Physical Resilience Index

Meaning

The Physical Resilience Index is a composite, quantitative measure designed to assess an individual’s capacity to withstand, adapt to, and rapidly recover from physical stressors, injury, or illness. This index moves beyond simple metrics of strength or cardiovascular fitness to evaluate the integrated functional reserve of multiple physiological systems, including the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and neuroendocrine axes. A high index score indicates robust adaptive capacity and a reduced risk of functional decline and frailty with age. Clinical application of this index allows for targeted interventions to strengthen specific areas of vulnerability and enhance overall robustness.
