Physical Capability Metrics

Meaning

Physical Capability Metrics are a set of quantifiable, objective measures used in clinical and performance settings to assess an individual’s current functional capacity in terms of strength, endurance, power, and metabolic efficiency. These metrics include measurements such as grip strength, VO2 max, lean muscle mass via DEXA, and various timed functional tests, which collectively provide a robust index of musculoskeletal and cardiovascular health. Tracking these metrics over time is essential for monitoring the efficacy of exercise and nutritional interventions and for identifying age-related functional decline, known as sarcopenia. They serve as tangible biomarkers of biological resilience and healthspan.
