Phosphorylated Tau

Meaning

Phosphorylated Tau refers to the tau protein, a key neuronal component, with abnormal phosphate group additions. While normal phosphorylation stabilizes microtubules, excessive phosphorylation causes tau to detach and aggregate into insoluble neurofibrillary tangles. These pathological tangles are a primary hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.
