Phospholipase C

Meaning

Phospholipase C (PLC) represents a crucial class of enzymes responsible for hydrolyzing specific phospholipids, notably phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2), into two distinct second messengers: diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3). These molecular products are pivotal in relaying signals from the cell surface into the cellular interior, initiating a cascade of physiological responses.
