Phenolic Compounds

Meaning

Phenolic Compounds, also widely known as polyphenols, are a vast and structurally diverse class of secondary metabolites produced by plants, characterized by the presence of at least one aromatic ring bearing one or more hydroxyl (-OH) groups. These phytochemicals are ubiquitous in a health-supportive diet, found in high concentrations in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and beverages like green tea and wine. They are primarily recognized for their potent antioxidant and free radical scavenging capabilities, which confer wide-ranging biological effects.
