Phase Response Curve

Meaning

The Phase Response Curve (PRC) is a graphical representation illustrating the magnitude and direction of a shift, or phase angle change, in an organism’s endogenous rhythm following a timed external stimulus or zeitgeber. In chronobiology applied to hormonal health, the PRC maps how light exposure or meal timing affects the timing of the master clock, consequently adjusting the entire endocrine cascade. Understanding the PRC is essential for designing interventions that effectively reset or stabilize disrupted circadian rhythms, which govern hormone release.
