Phase I Liver Detox

Meaning

Phase I Liver Detox, scientifically termed Phase I Biotransformation, is the initial biochemical pathway in the liver responsible for chemically modifying fat-soluble toxins, hormones, and xenobiotics to prepare them for subsequent excretion. This crucial process primarily involves the Cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzyme system, which introduces or exposes reactive chemical groups, such as hydroxyl groups, onto the molecules. It is a critical, rate-limiting step in the clearance of endogenous hormones, like estrogen and testosterone, and various environmental toxins.
